Jewellery Photography - how we meet your photographic challenges

helping you with our skill and technical photographic knowledge (to say nothing of patience!)

YOUR REFLECTIVE/POLISHED JEWELLERY SURFACES
The reflective characteristics of jewellery means a struggle to ensure the elegance of the polished finish in photos can be captured without also including all sorts of things you don't want to see (including the studio and the photographer!) Controlling the environment to reduce the possibility of unwanted reflections is easier within a studio environment, and tilted reflectors judicially employed along with skillfully located lighting gives life and energy to the work by means of producing hotspots and stops it looking dull and lifeless. The outcomes are jewellery pictures that are dynamic and inspiring.

YOUR JEWELLERY - ALL SHAPES AND SIZES
Your jewellery arrives in a variety of shapes and sizes and like a model tottering on high heels may need a supporting hand in front of the camera. Almost all jewellery has to be propped up to keep its carefully selected position, but done in such a way as to avoid marking its surface. A great deal of care and patience (and forbearance!) is exercised to fix the jewellery piece perfectly and to make those delicate and fine adjustments to get it appearing as perfect. Experience handling jewellery as a photographic subject helps make this activity a lot easier; which is just as well as it can certainly drive an inexperienced person nuts! When the end image looks wonderful though it is all worth it.

IMAGE SHARPNESS WITH YOUR SMALL SCALE JEWELLERY DETAIL
The quality of the photographs from any digital camera is a result of the sensor (size and megapixels), the camera's processor, and the lens quality. The lens quality is a major part of this process and for jewellery photography the use of a dedicated digital macro lens gives exceptional sharpness and contrast, meaning that every detail of your jewellery is rendered sharp, however small it may be. However don't forget that if your jewellery is hand-made it's going to have little scratches and "blemishes" (part of its normal personality) that you will most likely not have observed but which the camera may pick-up and show in the finished photo. This can be overcome with adustment. And don't worry this is where post-capture work will come in (also known as Photoshop work) and is another benefit to you from your specialised and skilled jewellery photographer.

YOUR POST-CAPTURE JEWELLERY IMAGE ADJUSTMENT
With regards to the final jewellery photos this is a crucial final procedure in the whole process of photo formation. The camera views significantly more when compared with the naked eye and in making adjustments to the image it can be made to be just as beautiful in picture form as the jewellery is to the naked eye.. Post capture adjustments are imperative to create the best quality from the raw image file and the majority of jewellery benefits from varying levels of retouching to take out spots.

In addition the advantage to you of digital images is that you have the option of creating cut-outs. By cutting the jewellery away from the original background, you have another useful technique to further lift the image and allow it to impact forcefully and beautifully for you when it is seen. This technique also allows the image to be placed on your webpage or printed page, without the inevitable border that accompanies a non-cut-out. The result, a stunning contemporary jewellery photograph for you to be proud of.
